Quarter Block Party 2018

Music & Culture Festival

North & South Main St., Cork, Ireland

02.02.18 - 04.02.18

Quarter Block Party is festival celebrating the most exciting contemporary art & music and the unique character of North & South Main Streets in Cork City.

The festival has a very specific feel to it with gigs and installations being hosted throughout different venues on the two streets, leading people to be constantly on the move and thinking about where they are going next. This constant awareness of space and direction lead directly into the aim of the branding. Taking influence from city maps and architectural drawings the buildings and streets are represented in simplistic and abstract backgrounds. These backgrounds did originally start from a map of Cork with the individual elements broken down until it was unrecognisable.

The festival logo also expresses this theme, with the letters being composed of sections and paths to invoke the fluidity of the festival. Any location was up for grabs to be taken over and used for the purpose of the artists. The logo can invoke stages, coffee shops, record players, whatever is needed.

The brand's colours also took on this malleable nature. Where possible the colour scheme would slowly slide in and out from one set to another mirroring the flowing nature of the festival and it’s unpredictability. This was shown in videos and gifs used in social media, on festival backdrops as well as the website (since been taken down).

Content and information is presented in modular blocks throughout the promotional material, slotting neatly in where it must much like the adaptable city of Cork itself.

The festival was a huge success and I was happy with how it was represented both in the lead up and on the weekend. The style represented here is one I’m very drawn to; bright, bold and dynamic. Will definitely be carried forward with me.
